Church And State Volunteer Requirements

All parents who participate in the Our Lady of Walsingham Homeschool Co-op are considered volunteers. Both the State of California and the Catholic Church have requirements for all volunteers. While we understand that this is an inconvenience to you, please know that these are steps put in place to help keep our children safe.

California Volunteer Requirements

Mandated Reporter Training

To fulfill California's volunteer requirements, you must complete an online Mandated Reporter training. This 1-2 hour course can be accessed by clicking here: Ca Mandated Reporter Training. The training is valid for two years. There is a fee of $8.99 to take the final exam and receive your certificate. After registering for an individual account, select the "Volunteer" training module. Once you have completed the training and obtained your certificate, please email a copy to the Holy Martyrs secretary, Michele, at [email protected].

 Live Scan

After the training is complete, you will need to be fingerprinted and background checked using the BCIA form linked here. On this form please remember to identify yourself as a volunteer, not an employee. There is a $25 fee for this background check and will only be required one time per current guidelines. Holy Martyrs volunteers are anticipated at the location below and are only charging $25. You are able to use any Live Scan location as long as you present the form. The common price at other locations is around $40 as they are all independently owned.
