Church And State Volunteer Requirements

All parents participating in the Our Lady of Walsingham Homeschool Co-op are considered volunteers. As volunteers, both the State of California and the Catholic Church require certain training and background clearances before participation. These requirements are in place to help ensure the safety and well-being of all children.

IMPORTANT DEADLINE: All requirements—including background check clearances and training certificates—must be completed and on file before our Orientation Day, which serves as the first official day of the co-op year.

Please note: Some requirements, such as the Live Scan and Background Check, may take 1–2 weeks to process. We strongly encourage families to begin this process immediately after registering to ensure all requirements are completed before Orientation Day.

California Volunteer Requirements

1. California Mandated Reporter Training

To fulfill California's volunteer requirements, you must complete the online California Mandated Reporter Training. This 1-2 hour course can be accessed by clicking here: California Mandated Reporter TrainingThe training is valid for two years. After completing the Mandated Reporter Training, you will need to complete a Live Scan fingerprinting and background check using the BCIA form linked here. When completing the form, be sure to identify yourself as a volunteer, not an employee. Verification of Volunteer Requirements

Volunteer records are maintained by Holy Martyrs Parish, not by the Our Lady of Walsingham Homeschool Co-op. Once you have completed each required training and background clearance, please submit any required certificates or documentation directly to the Holy Martyrs secretary, Michele, at [email protected]. Prior to Orientation Day, the co-op Leadership Team will verify with the parish that all requirements have been completed and approved before families may participate in co-op activities.

If you have questions about these volunteer requirements or need assistance with the process, please contact the co-op Leadership Team [email protected]

Thank you for your willingness to serve our co-op community!
